Trans People Are Not a Trend — Attacking Them Is

Calling trans people a “trend” is not an innocent misunderstanding. It is a rhetorical weapon — a way to dismiss real human lives as temporary, fashionable, and therefore disposable. Trends pass. People do not.

Trans people did not suddenly appear because of social media, pronouns, or cultural shifts. They have existed for as long as humanity itself, across continents, cultures, and centuries. What has suddenly appeared is a relentless obsession with attacking them.

That obsession is the real trend.

A Familiar Pattern

Every day, the same script plays out. Politicians manufacture moral panic to win elections. Media outlets amplify fear because outrage generates clicks. Commentators frame cruelty as “common sense” and discrimination as “reasonable concern.”

Trans people are no longer treated as individuals with lives, families, and histories. They are reduced to a supposed threat — a problem that must be contained, controlled, or erased.

History should make us deeply uncomfortable with this framing. Because history has seen it before.

First comes dehumanisation. Then come restrictions. Then comes violence — often accompanied by applause from those who believe they are doing the right thing.

Book burnings are justified “to protect children.” Minority groups are targeted “to preserve society.” Neighbours are encouraged to police one another “for safety.” This is not protection. It is persecution with better marketing.

Cruelty Is Not Courage

If you spend your life trying to crush another group of people, you are not righteous. You are not brave. You are not defending values. You are repeating the same behaviours that fueled the darkest chapters in human history — only now wrapped in respectable language and broadcast at scale.

Cruelty does not become virtue because it is popular. Hate does not become truth because it is loud. Moral panic does not become morality simply because it is politically useful.

Let us be absolutely clear about what is happening. Trans people are not trying to erase anyone. They are not recruiting, indoctrinating, or dismantling society. They are human beings navigating their own lives in a world that increasingly questions their right to exist.

• They work.
• They love.
• They raise children.
• They care for parents.
• They contribute to society.

And yet, their existence is treated as something that requires constant justification.

The Real Problem

The real aggression does not come from trans people living openly. It comes from those who cannot tolerate difference and mistake discomfort for danger. From those who confuse control with order and fear with truth.

You are not protecting children by spreading lies. You are not protecting women by denying reality. You are not protecting society by targeting its most vulnerable members.

You are choosing cruelty. You are choosing exclusion. You are choosing to ignore history’s warning signs — signs written clearly and repeatedly in human suffering.

Trans people are not the problem. The campaign to erase them is.

History will remember who stood up for human dignity — and who tried to destroy it while calling it protection.
